Melbourne is located approximately 440kms east of Coonawarra and 425kms from Penola via Ballarat and Hamilton and approximately 560kms via the Great Ocean Road and Mount Gambier). To drive from Melbourne to Coonawarra on the shortest route, exit from the Kings Way exit on to the West Gate Freeway and merge on to the Western Ring Road. Continue on to the Western Freeway towards Ballarat after which you then turn off to Hamilton, travelling through Dunkeld on the Glenelg Highway. From Hamilton continue on to Coleraine and Casterton taking the Casterton Penola Road where you will enter South Australia and follow the Robert Rymill Drive for 9kms before turning right at Gordon Street in Penola. Continue on to Julian Street East and turn right at the Riddoch Highway where you will reach Coonawarra in approximately 15kms.
Adelaide is located approximately 375kms north of Coonawarra and 390kms from Penola. To drive from Adelaide to Coonawarra, follow the South Eastern Freeway from Adelaide towards Tailem Bend on the Princes Highway. Continue on from Tailem Bend on to the Dukes Highway towards Keith. At Keith, turn right on to the Riddoch Highway towards Naracoorte, Coonawarra and Penola. Coonawarra is the next township after Naracoorte. Penola is located approximately 15kms from Coonawarra.
