Redman Wines - a family tradition

Redman Wines and Must See WANT Have Buy are presenting a quirky experience at this years PENOLA/COONAWARRA ARTS FESTIVAL.

Whether you are tasting some of Redmans finest, or browsing through some hidden treasures at WANT, you can see State and Nationally recognised ‘Caricature’ artist, Peter Broelman at work.

Peter Broelman kicked off his career in Adelaide at The News in 1990 and has since contributed to a host of publications that have included People, TV Week, Sunday Mail, MAD, Cracked, Reader's Digest and Australasian Post.

His first love is editorial cartoons where opinion is just as important as irreverence, and has been awarded numerous State and National awards for his works.

Peter's other cartoon love is live caricatures, providing entertainment at a fast pace and producing a keepsake that will be associate with this event for years.

Both at Redman and WANT, we are giving you the chance to pose and have your own drawing done in a fun and memorable way, which would make a great gift to another member of your family, or a great talking piece “…going straight to the Pool Roomâ€.

Special deals and offers will be on offer at each venue, we would love to see you (and your caricature) on the weekend.

Bill Redman started work in Coonawarra, as a cellar hand at John Riddoch's winery, in 1901. In 1908 he purchased 40 acres of vines and made his first wines. Owen Redman joined his father in 1937, and through many trials and tribulations helped establish Coonawarra as the leading red wine producing area in Australia. In 1965 their original winery and vineyards were sold. Owen Redman immediately bought a block of 16 acres of Shiraz, which saw the start of the first "Redman' label in 1966.
From 1966 - 1969 Redman made only one wine, a Shiraz, which was called Redman Claret. (This was renamed Redman Shiraz in 1993.) The second wine, Redman Cabernet Sauvignon, was first released in 1972. These were the only two wines made by Redman until 1992. A third wine was then added to the range, the Cabernet Sauvignon Merlot blend.
Following in the family tradition, the third generation of Redman's in Bruce and Malcolm are now making the top quality wines for which the Redman name has become renowned. 2008 saw the family celebrating their 100 years of continuous winemaking in Coonawarra, and as part of the celebrations, "The REDMAN" 2002 Limited Release Centenary Blend was introduced into the range.

Fourth generation winemaker, Daniel Redman, also assisted in the 'Centenary' 2008 vintage. The full range of Redman wines are distributed and marketed nationally.
